About Us
Chair: Dr Sheilah Meikle
Why did I become involved with STT?…short answer – I was asked persuasively by Dilys (founding member and first chair) to become a trustee. Longer answer – I became involved with STT due to my long term engagement with and love of Tanzania. I was aware of how important access for wood/fuel is for poor families and how their quality of life can be improved by access to fuel efficient stoves. Initially in London and then when I visited the STT project in Dodoma I was impressed with both the organisation and what it was delivering. I had time and skills that I wished to contribute to a worthwhile development activity.
I am a social development specialist with experience as a senior academic and consultant. I have worked as an individual and as part of multi-disciplinary teams in UK, Africa (including Tanzania), Asia, the Middle East and the Americas for national governments, private and non profit sectors, as well as aid agencies and development foundations. I have experience in project management and an interest in a wide range of issues including: training, research, poverty, energy, sustainable livelihoods, governance, involuntary resettlement, water and sanitation and environmental management. I also have experience in the preparation and production of best practice and guidance material
