Vision

Poor people have access to affordable and safe means of cooking, sustainable sources of fuel and the opportunity to improve their household livelihoods.

Mission

To introduce poor families (especially those living in arid/semi-arid lands) to low cost, sustainable, appropriate technologies and work with them, especially woman, to improve their quality of life.

Aims

To work with the people of Tanzania to improve the quality of their lives and the environment in which they live. Specifically to:

  • reduce the financial, human resources and biomass energy (wood and charcoal), used in traditional means of cooking and thus improve the livelihoods of poor households;
  • improve the health, primarily of women and children by introducing new, appropriate cooking approaches which reduce smoke and dangerous fumes;
  • contribute to reducing the deforestation and desertification in the arid region of Dodoma through the introduction of improved tree management and use;
  • embed the new approaches – cooking and tree management – in the culture and lifestyle of the communities and thus ensure their sustainability;
  • monitor and disseminate the knowledge gained from the various STT activities (technologies).
  • research, develop and disseminate knowledge of sustainable appropriate technologies and techniques.

October 2009

'...the current total of STT stoves is now more than 1100, which is more than double the amount of stoves at the beginning of the year. It is very inspiring to see the builders being so active and enthusiastic about their work, and to visit satisfied customers using their new rocket stoves...'
